Phillip J. Tichenor
Phillip J. Tichenor is professor emeritus of journalism and mass communication at the University of
Minnesota. His career included 7 years in professional agricultural college communications and 30 in academic journalism.
His teaching and research specialties were mass communication research methods, public opinion and community
media systems.
With Professors George Donohue and Clarice Olien, Professor Tichenor was involved in a 35-year study of
community structure and the dissemination of knowledge to general and specialized audiences.
He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees at the University of Wisconsin, continued his graduated studies at the
University of Minnesota, and earned a Ph.D. at Stanford University.
Professor Tichenor's contributions add to the ACDC collection in several important subject areas. Among them:
