Suitable soils/seasons : Soil analysis to be done for analysing the nutrient levels and Salinity and Alkalinity. Red soils and Black soils are suitable. Seasons suitable are Kharif and Rabi under wells and sprinklers

Varietal Information :  Improved varieties suitable for the District TMV-2, TPT-1, TPT-2, K-134

Sowing :  Seed rate is 100-120 kg kernels/ha,   Seed treatment by Mancozeb 3gm/kg seed

Weed Management : Hand weeding/hoeing at   fertiliser application. If weeds are more, for grassy weeds apply Butachlor, and for broad leafed weeds apply  2,4 D or Anilophos

Irrigation : Conduct water analysis for assessing Salinity and alkalinity.

Ferrous sulphate 0.5% solution with 0.1% Citric acid.

Gypsum at the rate of 500 kg/ha at flowering (pegging) stage

Red Hairy Caterpillar (RHC): Identification of endemic areas. Pest pupae collection in the fields.Arranging bonfires and light traps. Digging 'V' shaped trenches around the field. Sowing cowpea and castor trap crops.

Root Grub : Soil application of Phorate granules at the rate of 15 kg per hectare (?).Seed treatment with Chlorpyriphos 2 % solution .
